The Vagus Nerve

The Vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body, running from the brainstem down through the neck and into the heart, lungs, digestive system, and other organs. It is part of the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), which controls the body’s rest and digest functions.

Stress and disease triggers the sympathetic nervous system where our bodies go into fight-flight-freeze mode. By using techniques to activate the Vagus Nerve we can help our bodies recover.

Positive thinking is about creating a  mindset that involves focusing on the good aspects of situations, expecting favorable outcomes, and maintaining an optimistic attitude, even when facing challenges.

We can leverage our positive thinking by use the Reticular Activating System (neurons in the brainstem) in order to create the outcomes we want.

Imagery is the process of creating mental pictures, sensations, or experiences in the mind using our senses. It is widely used in psychology, sports, therapy, and personal development to enhance performance, confidence, reduce stress, and improve well-being.

The ABCDE Model of Learned Optimism was developed by Dr. Martin Seligman, a psychologist known for his work on positive psychology

This ABCDE model gives a framework to help shift thoughts from a pessimistic to a optimistic mindset.

Anchoring is an NLP technique used to create a conditioned response by associating a specific stimulus (like a touch, sound, or word) with a desired emotional state. It’s similar to Pavlov’s classical conditioning, in his famous experiment Pavlov conditioned dogs to salivate when a bell was sounded.

Progressive Relaxation is a technique designed to reduce stress and anxiety by systematically tensing and then relaxing different muscle groups. It was developed by Dr. Edmund Jacobson in the 1920s and is widely used in stress management, anxiety reduction, sleep improvement, and even pain relief.

Hakalau is a technique inspired by ancient Hawaiian practices that helps individuals enter a relaxed, focused, but aware state. It is also referred to as Peripheral Vision or the Learning State.

It involves shifting your focus from narrow (foveal) vision to wide (peripheral) vision, which induces a calm and heightened state of awareness. This state helps with deep relaxation, increased learning, and heightened intuition.

The Swish Technique is a NLP technique used for changing unwanted habits, behaviors, or negative thought patterns by replacing them with a more positive mental image.

It works by reprogramming the unconscious mind to automatically shift from an undesired state to a desired one.

The Fast Phobia Technique is a NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) technique designed to help people quickly overcome phobias and traumatic memories by changing how they mentally represent these experiences.

It works by detaching emotions from the trauma or phobia by a process of dissociation. The brain reprocesses the experience in a non-threatening way – you will not forget the experience but you won’t have the strong emotions associated with it.

Why Empower the Unconscious Mind?

Empowering the unconscious mind is important because the unconscious mind controls around 95-97% of our thoughts, behaviors, emotions and bodily functions. By tapping into its power, we can reprogram limiting beliefs, enhance creativity, and improve overall well-being. We can improve…

1. Our Control over Automatic Behavior & Habits

• The unconscious mind stores habits and patterns (both helpful and limiting).

• By reprogramming it, we can eliminate bad habits and develop positive ones.

2. “Gut Feelings”

• The unconscious mind can analyse and respond to situations faster than conscious thought.

• This is why intuition and “gut feelings” often lead to good decisions.

3. Our Deep-Seated Beliefs & Emotions

• Many of our beliefs about success, self-worth, and happiness are stored unconsciously.

• Changing these beliefs can lead to greater confidence and motivation.

4. Our Health & Healing

• The unconscious controls bodily functions (heart rate, digestion, immune response).

• Techniques like visualization, hypnosis, and meditation can improve physical health.

5. Creativity & Problem-Solving

• The unconscious mind connects ideas in non-linear ways, helping with creativity.

• Many great discoveries, inventions, and insights have come from dreams or unconscious processing.

Who is this for?

The Mindset Mini Course is for anyone really… There are techniques to help with fear, anxiety and confidence as well as information on how to look at the balance of your life and how you can view it more optimistically.
