Discovering and developing mental toughness can help with sport, educational, health and social care as well as occupational and personal development. Mental toughness is defined as…
“The capacity for an individual to deal effectively with stressors, pressures and challenge and perform to the best of their abilities, irrespective of the circumstances in which they find themselves”. (Clough & Earle 2002)
“Mental Toughness is a personality trait which determines, in large part, how people respond to challenge, stress and pressure, irrespective of their circumstances”. (Clough & Strycharczyk 2012)
The Mental Toughness Questionnaire (MTQ) was developed in order to measure 8 factors; emotional control, life control, interpersonal confidence, confidence in abilities, goal & achievement motivation & learning and risk orientation. The MTQPlus is a 68 item questionnaire that provides a normative assessment of the 8 factors.
Overall we can see these two profiles have the same overall level of Mental Toughness. However you can see that the left one has a much more diverse range in scores when looking at the individual components of Mental Toughness. With this knowledge the areas for development can be easily seen.
The development report provides the scores with an explanation of what they mean and the possible implications. Plus development suggestions for each of the four component scales.
The MTQPlus can be purchased for individuals or for groups.
